Years lifting? |
40- 5 years as a powerlifter |
How did you come to powerlifting or Olympic lifting? |
I wanted to play a sport at age 55. I accomplished some records in softball and basketball earlier in life and wanted to pursue something different. Then I vended at a Raw Powerlifting event and saw 50-70 year old men competing along with a handful of women. I always loved strength so I looked into training as a powerlifter and the rest is history. |
Do you have any previous athletic or lifting experience? |
Played many sports years ago and been lifting weights for 40 years. |
Do you compete? Why or why not? If you compete, what do you like most about the competitions? |
I have a competitive edge in me and like to win!. What I love about the competitions is the camaraderie. |
Equipped or Raw? |
Raw |
Do you have a coach or trainer? In person or online? How did you find your trainer/program? Do you have any advice for women looking for a trainer? |
My coach is Bentz Tozer of Max Fitness. We meet up 1x/week on season. He was a recommendation from business associates. When looking for a trainer make sure they have a powerlifting background. |
Where do you train? Gym, garage? |
Crunch – Harrisburg Pa |
What is the hardest part about beginning lifting as an older woman? |
Pacing yourself, over training and remember that I am not 25 anymore! |
How has lifting affected your health? |
As far as I know- in good health, no medications and look young. |
What would you tell women just beginning this journey? |
I stated to lift because I didn’t want to use a walker in my old age. My Mother was an uncontrollable Diabetic and I didn’t want to be like that. These were the motivation in my youth. Find a motivation to stay healthy! Refuse to be a part of the system and have vision for good health. If you have a killer spirit like me- compete! |
