Life and Powerlifting After Retirement

I was downsized from my job after 30 years. I felt lost. It was like like losing my family. I became depressed and stopped leaving the house. My daughter asked if I would join the local Golds Gym with her. I’m glad I did because it was exactly what I needed. I set up a few sessions with a trainer, who turned out to be a powerlifter. This was the beginning of my my new life. I was sharing on FB my new deadlift PR when a lady commented that with that number I could likely qualify for World’s in Belgium in 2013. She asked if I would be interested in joining a team? Short version: I qualified, competed in Belgium, and set a new World record for my age and weight class. I have since been to 3 more World competitions, in Wales, Malta, and right here in the USA. I’m hooked. I was hooked by the 1st competition way back in January 2013. My most recent contest was October, 16th with the USAPL where I set 2 new American Records for bench (148#) and deadlift (358#). I am 72 years old.
