How did you come to powerlifting or Olympic lifting? |
I was doing Crossfit and wanted to get stronger. A group of women in my gym got together and started training. |
Do you have any previous athletic or lifting experience? |
As a “youngster” I avoided physical activity at all costs – I just wanted to be left alone to read! When I turned 36 I became concerned with my weight gain. I started running. Eventually I went through all the fitness regimes – spinning, body pump. I finally found Crossfit about 9 years ago! |
Do you compete? Why or why not? If you compete, what do you like most about the competitions? |
I compete to stay motivated to train. |
Equipped or Raw? |
Raw |
Do you have a coach or trainer? In person or online? How did you find your trainer/program? Do you have any advice for women looking for a trainer? |
I have an online Starting Strength coach. After Hurricane Michael destroyer our town and all our gyms, I hired an online coach to do my programming. |
Where do you train? Gym, garage? |
I train in my garage with my sister. |
What is the hardest part about beginning lifting as an older woman? |
How long it takes to make gains and how quickly they go away with the slightest break in training. |
How has lifting affected your health? |
I’m fitter than I have ever been. |
What would you tell women just beginning this journey? |
Just show up (and leave your ego at the door). |
