How did you come to powerlifting or Olympic lifting? |
Have been Olympic lifting since high school – married my coach years later and then became a coach myself. |
Do you have any previous athletic or lifting experience? |
Lifting since I was 15, hubby is 2 time head Olympic Coach for Weightlifting. I have competed in the Olympic Festival twice, many time Masters National Champion, Junior and Collegiate Champion. |
Do you compete? Why or why not? If you compete, what do you like most about the competitions? |
I compete in Olympic lifting, getting ready for my first Powerlifting meet this year. I love the adrenaline of competition- pushing you past where you think you can go. |
Equipped or Raw? |
Raw |
Do you have a coach or trainer? In person or online? How did you find your trainer/program? Do you have any advice for women looking for a trainer? |
My husband has always been my coach- but he does remote and in person programming for others. |
Where do you train? Gym, garage? |
We run a gym for Olympic lifting, it is county subsidized, built for the Olympics in 1995 as a legacy and place for athletes to train. |
What is the hardest part about beginning lifting as an older woman? |
Facing your fears, finding a coach and place to train. Also dealing with aches and pains of arthritis for me. |
How has lifting affected your health? |
Lifting has kept me in shape all my life. It has given me goals to stay in a weight class and fight the obesity and health problems that run in my family |
What would you tell women just beginning this journey? |
Don’t be afraid to lift heavy. Women are stronger than we think. |
